Royal Canadian Mint invites Canadians to design coins for 2017

Surprisingly, several residents from Canada were invited to design coins for Canada. This invitation for coin design is to mark the 150th Anniversary of Canada and design the five coins that are in circulation in Canada.

When Canada would turn 150 in 2017, the Royal Canadian Mint plans to roll out the newly designed 5-cent, 10-cent, 25-cent, one-dollar and two-dollar coins to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of Canada.

As there would be several thousands of designs that would be submitted, the Royal Canadian Mint has come up with a contest known as "My Canada, My Inspiration" which would be held across several venues to decide on the winners. The mint is expecting unique designs on both sides of the coin and itt is pushing the Canadians to design the coins based on the following themes:

Our Wonders - Canada's beauty, from nature to monuments.

Our Character - Values or principles that define the identity of Canada.

Our Achievements - Discoveries, exploration or victories.

Our Passions - From culture to sports, to pastimes.

Canada's future - This category is reserved for Canadians 12-years of age and under for the 25-cent coin.

The last date for design submission is on 30th April 2015 and the final design would be decided by a group of popular Canadians and the winning designs will be announced sometime during September 2015. The official unveiling of the designs and designers would be in 2017.
